Dr. Ed Breitschwerdt, Galaxy Diagnostics co-founder and chief scientific officer, is presenting a lecture on Bartonella at the International Conference on chronic inflammatory disorders – Special attention to Alzheimer’s disease, organized by the Prevention Alzheimer International Foundation. The conference is being held October 10-13, 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The title of his presentation is “Bartonellosis: an emerging infectious disease of zoonotic importance”. A number of Bartonella species have been implicated in neurovascular diseases. Also, bartonellosis is an important differential diagnosis for neuroretinitis as well as conditions associated with peripheral neuropathies and unexplained seizures. Globally, the two most common species of infection are Bartonella henselae (cat scratch disease) and Bartonella quintana (trench fever). The conference will also address the potential role of other infections, including Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi), which has been linked to neurological, psychiatric and chronic inflammatory disorders following chronic infection. The conference speakers include leading scientists from around the world working on the infection model of Alzheimer’s disease.
