Galaxy Diagnostics offers Lyme disease (Lyme borreliosis) testing as part of our growing menu of laboratory developed tests for infectious diseases spread by ticks, fleas and other insect vectors. Borrelia burgdorferi, B. afzelii, B. garinii, and other causative agents of Lyme borreliosis across the world are primarily transmitted to people by hard-bodied Ixodes ticks.
The Lyme Borrelia Nanotrap® Antigen Test confirms active infection through direct detection of Outer surface protein A (OspA) in urine. Nanotrap® particles, manufactured by Ceres Nanosciences, capture and concentrate OspA followed by a highly sensitive Western blot. This intermediate sample enrichment step is necessary to maximize the likelihood of detecting proteins that are present in small quantities.
Experts recommend combining the Nanotrap® Test with standard serology tests to maximize diagnostic sensitivity.
